What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic has been used in modern practice for over 100 years, but can be traced back thousands of years. The word chiropractic comes from Greek meaning "chiro" = "hand"; Practice = "to do", therefore, "chiropractic" = "to do by hand".
D.D. Palmer is said to have discovered our modern version of chiropractic on September 18, 1895, when he gave the first chiropractic adjustment to a man named Harvey Lillard. Mr. Lillard had been deaf for eighteen years preceding the adjustment. After his adjustment, his hearing was restored and subsequently Modern Chiropractic was born.
Chiropractic is a unique health care discipline, separate and distinct from all other schools of health. Its practitioners compose the largest of the alternative healing arts.
Chiropractic is the second largest healing profession in the world.
Currently, there are over fifty thousand chiropractors in the United States giving care to over 1 million patients per day. There are several Chiropractic colleges in the United States, Europe, Australia and Japan. This has contributed to the rapid world wide growth of chiropractic. Over it's 100 year history, chiropractic has demonstrated high patient satisfaction and remarkable cost effectiveness.
What do chiropractors treat?
Chiropractors focus on finding the cause or source of your problem. They treat the actual cause rather than just the symptoms you may experience. Chiropractic offers an excellent alternative for care as opposed to the traditional medicinal approach. Typical drug treatment, prescribed or over the counter, offers only symptom relief but the cause is left untreated. Remember, pain is just a symptom and not the actual problem. Chiropractic focuses on treating the cause of your problem and with regular checkups can keep you in optimum health and pain free so you can can enjoy living!
Chiropractic offers an excellent means to gain relief and specializes in locating and correcting/stabilizing subluxations and other instabilities in your spine. Quite simply, a subluxation is a bone (vertebrae) out of place pinching/irritating a nerve You can have subluxations without experiencing any pain or symptoms.
Common conditions associated with subluxation and treated with chiropractic care are: Headaches, migraines, neck and shoulder pain, low back pain, all kinds of back pain, leg pain and/or sciatica, joint pain and stress.
Does chiropractic work?
Yes. In fact, many recent government and state studies show that a majority of back injuries are improved in HALF THE TIME with chiropractic care. Due to its outstanding results, lack of side effects, and cost effectiveness, chiropractic is being utilized by more people than ever before.
Who needs chiropractic care?
Well, practically everyone. Let me put it to you this way, Would you like to be healthy, active and have the energy to do the things you enjoy? Just about everyone would answer "yes" to that question. If you are in pain right now or want to just feel your best, chiropractic can probably help you. As mentioned before, pain is just a symptom of an underlying problem and is often the last symptom to surface. Think for a moment that your pain is like the oil light on your car. Your oil light comes on when you have an urgent problem with your car's engine. Your spine behaves the same way. You experience pain as a symptom when your body can no longer compensate for the problem. So even if you are pain free, there may be some problem that may cause pain or other symptoms down the road if not checked.
Chiropractors are trained to detect early degeneration long before you may experience any symptoms. Early treatment can keep you in optimum health and keep your spine in tiptop shape. You owe it to yourself to seek chiropractic care before you even experience any pain or discomfort for better health and well being. Remember, we strive to give you total health, and regular chiropractic adjustments can improve your body's natural defenses against illness, disease and pain. Good spinal health is essential to total body health.
Is chiropractic safe?
ABSOLUTELY! Chiropractic is safe for all ages. Chiropractors see children, adults and seniors with excellent, safe treatment results. Consider that medical doctors pay 10 to 14 times more than chiropractors for their malpractice insurance due to the amount of claims filed. Chiropractic can offer safe, effective results for all members of your family.
